Once upon a time in the future…
When I set out on my sketch-a-graphic journey I didn’t know where it was going to take me, but as things started to happen and I talked to people around me all sorts of ideas and projects have emerged.
So too has a goal that I’d love to achieve one day. I think it stems from my days of employment and seeing the challenge that new managers into the organisation had with information overload. The problem with information overload is that rather than buckle down and work their way through it, most people take a little glance and then put it all aside and get on with the day job.
That’s all well and good until you actually need that information and have no idea it exists, what’s included in it or what your responsibilities are as part of it.
More often than not this relates to HR processes and when things go wrong, HR is called in to fix it, despite it being a managers job! Knowing when to call HR for help and advice is important, but they can’t and shouldn’t do your job for you.
So back to the reason for my goal. I want to make it easier for managers to know and understand what HR policies are out there and what they cover. They don’t need to be able to recite it word for word, but they should be able to give a summary and know where to get more information when the time is right.
THE GOAL…… is to turn a whole organisations HR policies into sketch-a-graphics
To me this looks like a single page summary of each policy which gives enough detail for managers to know what it includes and the confidence that they can get additional information when it is needed (which may or may not be the full policy document).
Now obviously I can’t do this alone, I need an organisation who thinks this is a great idea too! If this is you then get in touch and let’s talk about how we can make a new managers welcome into the organisation more appealing.
